Leap

A quantum leap in electrical energy storage

A company called EEStor have filed a patent for a "super capacitor". 31 Farad capacity which can run at 3,500 volts.

In small scale, it should be possible to charge a laptop or mobile phone on a domestic supply in 5 seconds and have two to three times as much energy stored, all in the same size as our current Li Ion batteries. Then since it's a capacitor instead of an electrochemical cell, there's no degradation between charge/discharge cycles.

Solar cells, wind turbines and electric cars could also really benefit from this.
